Rising River wines are created by Rickety Bridge Winery.
The Franschhoek wine estate, Rickety Bridge, has a winemaking history dating back to the 17th century. It was once part of the original La Provence farm granted to the first French Huguenots who settled in Oliphantshoek (Elephants Corner) and renamed the area, Franschhoek, or ‘French Corner’. Over the years La Provence was subdivided and in 1797 the land which is now known as Rickety Bridge wine estate was granted to the widow, Paulina De Villiers, and she planted the first vines there.
Rickety Bridge wine estate is situated less than 3 kilometres from the centre of the quaint Franschhoek town and nestles against the slopes of the Franschhoek Mountains overlooking the majestic Wemmershoek Mountain range.
THE STORY OF RISING RIVER
The Rising River Wines were inspired by the river that flows through the Franschhoek Valley and the picturesque mountains that surround this idyllic landmark town.
HARVEST
All the grapes used to make this wine were selected from top quality vineyards in the Western Cape and picked at optimal ripeness.
WINE MAKING
All the grapes were de-stemmed and then transferred to open top fermenters as whole berries. 10% of the Shiraz grapes were fermented as whole bunches to add more structure to the final blend. The wines were fermented separately in open top fermenters with daily punch downs.
Thereafter the separate varieties were matured in French oak barrels for 12 months before blending.
