How Bacardi Rum Is Made

The Bacardi production process is a proprietary secret, passed down from one generation to the next. It begins with sugarcane.

The sugarcane that Bacardi uses is carefully selected and includes only the ripest portion of the sugarcane.

Once harvested and checked for quality, the sugarcane goes through a process of sorting and chopping. Once slushed, the sugarcane is pressurized to release the juice needed to make rum.

Bacardi takes the sugarcane juice to the distillery where it is processed several times to eliminate any microbes and create a uniform result. Once distilled, the product is stored inside American White Oak barrels for aging. Charred on the inside, the rum gains a smoky flavor while it ages.

Bacardi rum is still coal filtered twice before aging or blending to enhance the pure, smooth taste and flavor.

If you’re on the hunt for Bacardi rum, spot it by the bat logo. This trademark is widely known while the bat evolves in appearance over the years.
