Choose Hennessy XO Cognac
Hennessy XO is a special, elite beverage created in 1870 specifically for Maurice Hennessy’s small circle of friends. This cognac is the original XO, the revered icon of Hennessy products.
The eaux-de-vie, or twice-distilled fruit brandy, that produces this cognac is aged in young barrels and has a great deal of impact and complexity. The following seven facets typify the drinking experience according to experts:

The fine cognac Hennessy XO is a preferred introductory cognac and wonderful for sipping. It’s distilled in Cognac, France, in copper alembic charentais, and aged in French oak casks. This beverage is 80 proof, or 40% Alcohol by Volume and aged a minimum of ten years.
The perfect blend of sweet fruit, chocolate, vanilla, and oakiness is a special luxury, allowing Hennessy XO to win the Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2005-2009 and 2012 as well as the Silver Medal in 2011.
Hennessy XO should be enjoyed as a sipper, straight or with a splash of water, neat or on the rocks.

Ingredients:
- 2 oz. Hennessy XO
- ½ tsp Rainwater Madeira
- ½ tsp walnut oil
- 1 star anise pod (garnish)
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass – no ice.
- Stir for 30 seconds.
- Pour into a sering glass.
- Garnish with the star anise pod.
Discovering Cognac
Cognac is a type of brandy that must be distilled in the Cognac region of France from specific types of grapes. A minimum of 90% of the eaux-de-vie blend should come from Ugni Blanc, or Saint-Emilion, grapes. Cognac is twice distilled through copper pot stills and aged at least two years in French oak barrels from Troncais or Limousin.
Defining Cognac by age:
- VS (Very Special) – aged 2+ years
- VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) – aged 4+ years
- XO (Extra Old) – aged 10+ years
- XXO (Extra Extra Old) – aged 14+ years
- Napoleon – aged 6+ years
- Réserve – aged an average of 25+ years
- Hors d’Age – aged 30-50 years, or even 100+ years
- Extra – aged an average of 15-25+ years
- Cuvée – refers to one particular batch or blend
