About Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc
Oyster Bay wines are produced in Marlborough, New Zealand. The producer, Oyster Bay Wines, is best known for its Sauvignon Blanc. The family-owned company’s first vintage was named best Sauvignon Blanc at the 1991 International Wine and Spirit Competition, and the wine has continued to win competition after competition.
Oyster Bay was one of the first labels to capitalize on the popularity of the herbaceous, aromatic Marlborough style, and has grown to become one of New Zealand’s most recognizable wine brands.
Vineyards throughout the Marlborough region provide grapes for Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc, with plantings in both Wairau Valley and Awatere Valley, and annual case production has grown to be in the millions.
Don’t be put off by the fact that Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc bottle features a screw cap! There is no longer any truth to the myth that good wines should always be sealed with a cork so that tiny traces of oxygen can leak into the wine, helping with the aging process. Recent innovations have produced twist-off tops that allow some oxygen in while protecting the wine from harmful oxidation. Today, even super-premium wines are using screw tops!
