A frequently asked question from visitors to the Cayman Islands is, “Can you drink the water in Grand Cayman?” Read on for the answer from the experts at Jacques Scott Wines & Spirits, who will also recommend other delicious beverages!

Can You Drink the Water in Grand Cayman? For the most part, the water in Grand Cayman is completely safe to cook with and drink. The water is pumped from deep underground via a series of abstraction wells, and there are two desalination plants on Island that supply good-quality purified tap water. All hotels and condos and most restaurants and private homes are connected to this city water supply. To be sure you are drinking desalinated water, ask about the water source.

If you plan to visit our sister islands, you will find that Cayman Brac also has a desalination plant that supplies purified water, but Little Cayman does not. Establishments on Little Cayman have their own water systems, some relying on rainwater collected in cisterns. If that is the case in your hotel, it is safer to choose bottled water.

Do not drink from a river, spring or stream under any circumstances, regardless of how clean the water may look.
