Our “Off-Season” Weather

Cayman Islands Weather in JulySummer in the Cayman Islands – May through October – is known as the “wet season” and the “off season.” You will experience the most rain in May and June and again in September and October, but air and water temperatures are warm and ideal for diving, snorkeling, sailing and fishing. The hottest months are August, when highs hover around 89°F, followed by July and then September.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 1 in the Atlantic, but it’s unlikely that you will experience a hurricane on Grand Cayman. The Cayman Islands are far enough west that most storms passing through the Caribbean Sea turn northward before they reach us. However, the water can be choppy, so take this into consideration if you plan to snorkel and scuba dive.

Public Holidays in July

Every first Monday of July is Constitution Day in Cayman Islands. The public holiday commemorates the first written constitution of the Cayman Islands, which was adopted on July 4, 1959. It granted women the right to vote and removed Cayman’s political dependence on Jamaica.

In spite of the July 4 date, the holiday now always falls on a Monday. Cayman hotels and resorts often observe Constitution Day with festive barbeques and a grand fireworks display (usually in Camana Bay).

When the Weather is Beautiful…

The Cayman Islands offer some of the best attractions in the world for residents and visitors alike. In addition to spending your day relaxing on world-famous Seven Mile Beach, here are a few hidden gems.

Crystal Caves – This geologic wonder, situated in a lush tropical forest in North Side, Grand Cayman, took millions of years to form as erosion caused by seawater created caverns full of stalagmites, stalactites, crystal-like mineral deposits, and a gorgeous interior lake. They are available for daily tours (except Good Friday and Christmas Day).

Kittiwake Shipwreck & Underwater MuseumDive or snorkel on the wreck of the USS Kittiwake, a 251-foot-long former submarine support ship that was sunk in 2011 to serve as an artificial reef. It is a haven for 50 species of coral and over 500 species of fish, and can be enjoyed by all skill levels of snorkelers and scuba divers.

When You Get Caught by a Tropical Storm…

Rain showers in Grand Cayman typically clear up as quickly as they arrive, lasting only a few hours at a time. If you’re trying to stay dry, however, try one of the following fun experiences.

The entire family can absorb some of the art, history and culture of the Islands at the Cayman Islands National Museum. Housed in Cayman’s oldest surviving public building, you will find two floors of galleries and exhibits, including boats, furniture, textiles, paintings, and ceramics, as well as an interesting children’s gallery.

Take a guided tour of the Cayman Spirits Company distillery in George Town to learn about the distilling process for their award-winning Seven Fathoms golden rums that are aged in wooden barrels located seven fathoms underwater, right here in the Cayman Islands.

The weather in the Cayman Islands is warm and inviting in July and at virtually any time of the year. Feel free to stop in at one of our Jacques Scott Wines & Spirits liquor stores for more tips on things to do while you’re here.
