Cayman Islands in November

Winter (November – April) on Grand Cayman, is also known as “high season” or “dry season.” It’s the most popular time for people to visit, primarily because they are escaping cold, cruel winter weather at home. If you love dry weather with low humidity, a November visit is a great choice. The month is warm with few really hot periods and little rain. Daily highs average 80˚ to 84˚F (27˚ to 29˚C); daily lows range from 73˚ to 80˚F (23˚ to 27˚C); and water temperatures are about 83°F (29˚C).

It’s important to keep in mind that November is officially the last month of the hurricane season in the Cayman Islands, but it’s unlikely that you will experience a hurricane here. The Cayman Islands are far enough west that most storms passing through the Caribbean Sea turn northward before they reach us. The last hurricane to cause major damage to the island happened in 2004.

November Events

Conch Season Opens

If you enjoy fishing and cooking while on vacation in the Cayman Islands, you may want to try conch (pronounced “conk”), an edible snail with a mild, sweet clam-like flavor that is delicious in soup, stews, salads and spicy conch fritters.

November 1st of every year is the official opening of conch season (which closes April 30th). The legal limit is 5 per person or 10 per boat, whichever is less. Only queen conch may be taken, and no person may take more than five conchs from Cayman waters. Anyone caught possessing locally caught conch out of season will be prosecuted.

Conch may not be taken from marine protected areas. The best option is to plan a conch dive with one of Grand Caymans many dive operators, such as Silver Thatch Watersports.

It’s Time for Pirates Week; Cayman Islands National Festival

The annual Pirates Week festival is held every November, with festivities that begin on Cayman Brac, move to Grand Cayman for five fun-filled days of music, street dances, competitions, games, and food festivals, and ends with a parade, BBQ and fireworks on Little Cayman. For 42 years, the event has continued to draw thousands of people locally and internationally for the festivities.
