About the Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands is a British Overseas Territory and overseas territory of the European Union located in the western Caribbean Sea, just over one hour by air from Miami, Florida. We are located south of Cuba and northwest of Jamaica.

Grand Cayman: Grand Cayman is the largest of our three Islands and the location of the territory’s colorful capital, George Town. It’s only about 22 miles long and 8 miles wide at its widest point, but packed with spectacular beaches like the famous Seven Mile Beach, amazing resorts, exhilarating scuba diving and snorkeling opportunities, once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as the Cayman Turtle Farm and Stingray City, and a world-famous center for offshore banking.

Cayman Brac: Christopher Columbus actually discovered the Sister Islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman a few years earlier than Grand Cayman. The Brac, as the island is commonly called, is the most easterly of the Cayman Islands. At 14 square miles in area, the island is big enough to have an abundance of hidden caves, winding trails, an international airport (Charles Kirkconnell International), and the highest elevation in the Cayman Islands at about 152 feet.

Little Cayman: This is the smallest and least developed of the three Cayman Islands. Little Cayman is about 80 miles northeast of Grand Cayman and consists of 10 square miles of secluded beaches, lagoons, mangrove forests, salt ponds, tropical forests, and a population of about 200 people and 20,000 Red-Footed Boobies (birds). It’s also the diving mecca of the Caribbean, with Bloody Bay Marine Park attracting the majority of visitors. Inter-island air service is provided by Cayman Airways Express, and it’s just a short hop to Little Cayman from Grand Cayman.

If you are in the Cayman Islands in November, plan to enjoy the fun filled days of music, street dances, competitions, games, and traditional food and drinks of our annual Pirates Week Festival while you absorb some of our history and heritage. The festivities begin on Cayman Brac, continue with a “pirate” invasion in Hog Sty Bay on Grand Cayman, and end with a parade, BBQ and fireworks on Little Cayman.

Whether you live on Grand Cayman or are just visiting, take advantage of FREE liquor delivery from Jacques Scott Wines & Spirits. Then, relax and enjoy your day in the spectacular Cayman Islands.
