About Chardonnay

There’s an age-old myth that white wine and steak do not pair well together. Of course, not all white wines will work perfectly with steak because they often lack the intensity and tannins to stand up to red meat, and will do little to spotlight their flavors.

But Chardonnay is an exception. Chardonnay is the most planted white wine grape in the world and has an amazing range. It can be bright and fresh, full and creamy, or something in between, giving it great versatility with food.

The acid in a glass of Chardonnay has a similar effect on beef as high tannins in red wine do, cutting through the juiciness and fattiness of the meat.  White wines also tend to taste best when served chilled, which can create a nice temperature contrast between a sizzling steak and a cool sip of Chardonnay.

If you are firing up the barbecue for a grilled steak, look for lightly-oaked Chardonnays with a smoky or nutty quality, and those that have a natural acidity and structure that will support the richness of a steak right off the grill.

At Jacques Scott Wines & Spirits, we stock a wide variety of excellent Chardonnays that will complement your steak dinner, including Far Niente Chardonnay from Napa Valley, California, which features perfectly aligned citrus and minerality. Other excellent choices are the Lewis Sonoma Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, and the Montes Alpha Chardonnay Reserva from the Casablanca Valley in Chile.

If you’re in a Jacques Scott Wines & Spirits store looking for a Chardonnay to go with your steak, ask one of our wine experts for assistance. We have the best wine shops in Grand Cayman and offer free delivery for online orders.
