Food & Drink Prices: What to Expect

Prices at most stores, bars and restaurants on Grand Cayman are listed in the local currency – the Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD). When paying with US Dollars, add 20% to account for the exchange rate. In other words, KYD $1.00 (or CI $1.00) is equal to USD $1.20.

On Grand Cayman, nearly everything has to be imported, so you can expect the prices on the things you eat and drink at home to be slightly more expensive here. For example:

  • Breakfast – In many hotels, breakfast is included with your stay. If you decide to venture out, expect to be offered coffee, juice and pastries of all kinds. KYD $4.00 – $8.00
  • Lunch – Eat on the beach or in a restaurant and enjoy lots of fish choices, salads and pastas. KYD $9.00 – $15.00
  • Dinner – Seafood, burgers, salads, pastas and pizza can be found most everywhere. KYD $12.00 – $25.00
  • Beer – Whether in a small club or a bar (in or out of a restaurant), you will find a selection of domestic and imported beers. KYD $4.00 – $5.00
  • Cocktails – In a downtown club, expect to pay KYD $10.00 – $12.00
  • Wine – Per bottle. KYD $20.00 – $25.00

If your accommodations have a kitchen, consider cooking for yourself now and then. Groceries can be found at excellent supermarkets from West End to East Bay that offer everything you could possibly need.

If you need cheese to go with your wine, visit Bay Market, which offers a variety of gourmet, specialty, and organic items, as well as the largest gourmet cheese selection on Island. Oriental Market in downtown George Town stocks Asian products from China to Thailand and, on most days, you can buy fresh fish directly from fishermen on the downtown George Town waterfront.
