Food & Groceries

Prices at most grocery stores, bars and restaurants on Grand Cayman are listed in the local currency – the Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD). When paying with US Dollars, add 20% to account for the exchange rate. In other words, KYD $1.00 (or CI $1.00) is equal to USD $1.20.

Food prices on Grand Cayman can be slightly more expensive than in the U.S. but are on par with those you will find on many other Caribbean islands and in other tourist destinations, such as Hawaii.

There are excellent supermarkets from West End to East Bay that offer all of the groceries you could possibly need. Bay Market offers a variety of gourmet, specialty, and organic items, as well as the largest gourmet cheese selection on Island.

In downtown George Town, Oriental Market stocks Asian products from China to Thailand. If you’re looking for fresh fish, on most days you can buy directly from fishermen on the downtown George Town waterfront. Need something for dessert? Try Icoa Fine Foods in the Seven Mile Beach Shops, where you’ll find superb fresh pastries, scones, pain au chocolate, croissants and more.

You may also want to try some of our unique dishes on Grand Cayman. For example, the Caymans are the only place in the world where you can legally eat turtle (available in the form of soup, steak and stew). Or try conch (pronounced “conk”), an edible snail with a mild, sweet clam-like flavor that can be found in soup, stew, salad and spicy fritters.
