Features of Don Julio 1942
First released in 2002, Don Julio 1942 is proudly handcrafted in small batches and aged for 32-35 months. The sleek modern bottle indicates the premium nature of its contents with its beauty. The bottle itself is a work of art, as is the craftsmanship of the tequila. In 2020, the tequila won gold in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
This premium 80 proof tequila is a layered, extra-aged, aromatic tequila of the añejo variety with tasting notes of sweet candy and apple flavors in the front and grassy agave, oak, and brown sugar on the back end.
The color of Don Julio 1942 is like deep straw – a bit lighter than other añejo tequilas – and the flavor is a bit unusual for the tequila variety as well.
The distillation process for making Don Julio 1942 takes place in a small stainless-steel pot still #6 while the aging process employs an ex-bourbon, American oak cask.
The Path to Don Julio 1942
Don Julio Gonzáles first began producing tequila in 1942 in a family operation called Tres Magueyes followed by Don Julio, the reserve held back by the family. Upon the 60th year in the tequila-making business, the company released Don Julio 1942.
Diageo bought out the brand in 2015.
