Cayman Islands Marriage Requirements

Getting Married in Cayman Islands - Legal RequirementsYou will be delighted to know that you can tie the knot in the Cayman Islands on the day you arrive because there are no residency requirements. There are, however, some documents you will need and some details you should take care of in advance:

  • If you are not residents of the Cayman Islands, you will be required to obtain a Special Marriage License for visiting couples issued under the authority of the Governor of the Cayman Islands. Your wedding celebrant or wedding planner can obtain this on your behalf.
  • All marriages must be attended by a licensed Cayman Islands Marriage Officer and by two other witnesses who are 18 or older. Make arrangements with an Officer before applying for the special license.
  • The minimum legal age for getting married is 18.
  • Provide proof of citizenship and age (valid passport or birth certificate and photo ID).
  • Provide proof of marital status (certified copy of divorce decree or death certificate, if applicable).
  • Provide your Immigration Department Card showing legal entry into the Cayman Islands (you receive this card as you clear immigration at the airport).
  • Provide International Embarkation/Disembarkation Cards if you are a passenger on a cruise ship.
  • Marriages must take place between 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM.

After your wedding, your Marriage Officer will file the record of your marriage and arrange for you to get a registered copy of your Marriage Certificate from the Cayman Islands government. When you get home, you should go to the public records office in city and arrange for it to be recorded there as well.

Tips:

There is no live/outdoor music allowed on Grand Cayman on Sunday. Consequently, if you plan to say “I do” beneath a tent on the beach or poolside on a Saturday, your band or DJ will have to stop playing by midnight.
