December Weather in Grand Cayman

The most pleasant weather in Grand Cayman is during the winter. December’s daily temperatures typically range from a low of about 75 degrees Fahrenheit to a high of about 83 degrees. There is little rain (an average of four days during the month), brilliant sunshine and a constant cool sea breeze. There may be no snow, but visitors will enjoy Christmas trees, gardens filled with twinkling lights, plenty of parties and good cheer.

What to Do in December

Cayman Islands Marathon

An annual highlight early in December is the Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon. The stunning IAAF-sanctioned route is flat and fast and consists of beautiful tropical flora, flawlessly landscaped homes, and magnificent views of the Caribbean. Competitors can participate in a full marathon, half marathon, 4-person relay or a run for kids. If you’d rather be a spectator and cheer for runners along the route, you’ll find the marathon a fun way to spend your morning.

A Cayman Christmas

Caymanians and visitors alike enjoy lots of Christmas traditions during December, such as a visit to the gardens at Bodden House, opposite Sunset House, the former home of seafarer “Cap’n” Theo Bodden, which becomes a theatrical display of lights during the holidays.

Camana Bay transforms into a sparkling wonderland with the lighting of their majestic Christmas tree, inspiring musical performances by The Cayman National Choir, craft markets, appearances by Santa, and a variety of other holiday events.

Another enjoyable Christmas tradition in Camana Bay is the Parade of Lights, which features boats of all shapes and sizes decked out with brightly colored holiday lights sailing into the harbor in a competition for the most magical boat. Shop at the Christmas market, enjoy carols and live music, and watch a fireworks display.

Boxing Day

The day after Christmas, Boxing Day, is also a public holiday in the Cayman Islands. When Boxing Day falls on a weekend, the following Monday is the day Boxing Day is observed. Just like Christmas Day, you can expect grocery stores, markets and shops to be closed, so plan ahead!

New Year’s Eve

Being in Grand Cayman on New Year’s Eve is a fantastic way to bring in the new year. Magnificent fireworks light up Seven Mile Beach, where bars and restaurants hold events from beach parties and black-tie events to live music and gourmet dinners.
