Fishing on Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman’s waters are teeming with fish, including blue marlin, wahoo, tuna, mahi-mahi, grouper, snapper and barracuda. Inshore, it’s possible to catch tarpon, permit, bonefish, pompano and barracuda.

Many companies operate across the Island to take anglers of all skill levels on fishing trips. We recommend the popular Captain Marvin’s on Grand Cayman for visitors who are interested in reef and deep-sea fishing charters or stingray/snorkel tours.

Visitors may engage in line fishing from shore or from a boat, but there are rules and restrictions you need to be aware of:

  • From shore, only catch and release fishing is allowed. You may not remove any marine life from the water unless you are a Cayman resident or have procured a fishing license.
  • Lobster season is closed from March 1st to November 30th. In season, lobsters must be at least 6 inches and the limit is 3 per person or 6 per boat.
  • Conch season is closed May 1st to October 30th. In season, the limit is 3 per person or 6 per boat.
  • In designated Grouper Spawning areas, Nassau Grouper may not be caught at any time of year. Otherwise, specimens must be 12 inches or larger to be removed from the sea.
  • Spear fishing of any kind is prohibited.
  • Catching turtles or taking turtle eggs is prohibited.
  • Sharks may not be fed or attracted with food.
