Grand Cayman On Your Own

Grand Cayman On Your Own

There are many attractions and activities you won’t want to miss on Grand Cayman, and most can be enjoyed on your own without crowds of cruise ship passengers. Here are several suggestions from the experts at Jacques Scott Wines & Spirits that will entertain visitors and residents alike.

Grand Cayman On Your OwnTop Two Attractions – The two most popular tourist attractions on Grand Cayman are Stingray City, where you can interact with the majestic, graceful Caymans Southern Stingrays that inhabit the shallow waters surrounding the Islands, and the Cayman Turtle Farm, where you can swim and snorkel with thousands of Green Sea Turtles in the 1.3-million-gallon saltwater lagoon. When cruise passengers are in George Town, expect Stingray City and the Turtle Farm to be packed with people.

Beverage Shopping Jacques Scott Wines & Spirits is known for our vast selection of popular international name brand and hard-to-find beers, wines and spirits. We have five convenient locations to serve you in George Town, West Bay, Seven Mile Beach, Savannah and East End, but the best way to get everything you need quickly is to order online. We deliver FREE to your home, office, vacation villa, yacht, resort hotel, or anywhere else on Grand Cayman Mondays through Saturdays.

Starfish Point – The crystal-clear water at this beach on the northeast tip of Grand Cayman, also called Ivory Kai Point or Starfish Beach, is often full of amazing wild orange Cushion Starfish that gather here to feed on micro-organisms found on the seabed, depending on the season and tide. Snap photos, but don’t take starfish out of the water or even think about keeping one (they’re protected by law; don’t risk a fine or prison time).

Crystal Caves – This geologic wonder, situated in a lush tropical forest in North Side, Grand Cayman, took millions of years to form as seawater erosion created caverns filled with stalagmites, stalactites, crystal-like mineral deposits, and a gorgeous interior lake. The caverns here at Crystal Caves are rumored to have been a pirate hideout, and three of them are available for daily tours (except Good Friday and Christmas Day).

Mastic Trail – Love to hike? Grand Cayman’s highest point is only 79 feet above sea level, so you won’t find mountains to climb. But that doesn’t mean our tropical paradise lacks mellow walks where you can enjoy the stunning scenery and local birds and wildlife. The historic Mastic Reserve Trail is a lesser-known but worthwhile attraction on the north side of the Island that will lead you through mangroves and old-growth forest on a satisfying four-mile round-trip hike.

Bioluminescent Bay – If you’re looking for an evening adventure, try a kayaking tour of the small, protected Bioluminescent Bay on the north side of Grand Cayman. The magical phenomenon, which causes the sea to glow during the darkest nights, is created by tiny single-celled organisms called dinoflagellates that emit light as they move through the water. Reserve your trip to Bio Bay with a tour operator in advance because the brightest light displays follow the moon cycle.
