What is Rum Point?

Rum Point, on the tranquil North Side of Grand Cayman that faces Cuba, is a beautiful white sandy public beach about 10 miles from George Town and an hour’s drive from Seven Mile Beach. It has a secluded tropical island feeling with lots of natural shade and less sun than Seven Mile Beach.

There are calm and shallow waters for kids, and adults have access to the top Caribbean water sport operators and a host of colorful island beach bars and restaurants. Rum Point offers changing rooms, showers, huts, chairs, hammocks in the Casuarina trees, snorkeling and volleyball nets to help you pass the time.

Rum Point is surrounded by large vacation homes and is not a touristy area. That means it is usually less crowded than other beaches (like Seven Mile Beach), but crowd levels will vary dramatically depending on the day and number of visitors present who are on excursions.

And, don’t miss The Wreck Bar and Grill where you can savor authentic island cuisine and delicious cocktails, such as Grand Cayman’s famous “Mudslides.”

Things to Do on Grand Cayman’s North Side

Cayman Kai: Located on Grand Cayman’s northern tip, Cayman Kai is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. It’s secluded, and visitors enjoy swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, beach volleyball and sailing. There are more than six miles of beach, as well as several restaurants, a dive shop and a grocery store.

Stingray City: Stingray City is located on the North Sound of Grand Cayman and is a quick 30-minute boat ride from shore. Learn about the biology and behavior of graceful Southern Stingrays while you observe them in their natural habitat, hold them, feed them with squid treats, and even swim alongside them.

Crystal Caves: A geologic wonder, this attraction is situated in a lush tropical forest in North Side, Grand Cayman. The caves took millions of years to form as seawater erosion created caverns filled with stalagmites, stalactites, crystal-like mineral deposits, and a gorgeous interior lake. Three caves are now available for daily tours (except Good Friday and Christmas Day).

With its soft sand and photogenic pier, Rum Point on Grand Cayman is a great place to snorkel and swim with sea turtles, sting rays, parrot fish and lobsters, or just enjoy basking in the sun. Be sure to visit Jacques Scott Wine & Spirits before you go to stock up on your favorite beverages.
