Chardonnay

Though it originates in France, chardonnay is the world’s most famous white wine grape., it is also widely cultivated from New Zealand to California, and from Argentina to Italy.

Chardonnay pairs very well with:

  • White-fleshed fish like snapper, halibut, mahi-mahi, cod, and tilapia
  • Salmon
  • Lobster, crab, scallops, and raw oysters
  • Fish tacos

Try pairing your seafood with the award-winning Stags Leap Chardonnay, an excellent choice from the California’s Napa Valley.

Pinot Grigio

The pinot grigio grape is a pink-skinned mutation of pinot noir. When produced in France, it is called Pinot Gris. Many people’s favorites come from Italy, but France, Germany, California and Oregon do quite well with the grape.

The medium-to-full bodied wine has a rich, floral bouquet and pairs exceptionally well with:

  • Lean, white fish such as snapper
  • Shellfish
  • Fried calamari (squid)

We recommend the Alta Luna Pinot Grigio from Trentino, Italy.

Riesling

This is a highly aromatic and fruity grape variety that can span a wide range of styles, from dry to sweet and light to full-bodied. Although historically associated with Germany, delicious Rieslings today also come from Alsace, France, Australia’s Clare and Eden Valleys, and in the U.S., Washington and New York’s Finger Lakes region.

Rieslings pair quite well with:

  • Salmon and tuna
  • White fish such as seabass. filet of sole, tilapia, and halibut
  • Ceviche
  • Steamed mussels and raw oysters
  • Asian seafood

We recommend the Prum Essence Riesling from Mosel, Germany.

Sauvignon Blanc

Great Sauvignon Blanc wines now come from wine regions all over the world, including California, Chile, South Africa, northern Italy and Australia. This is also the signature white wine of New Zealand, where it features intense green citrus and berry fruit flavors.

Pair Sauvignon Blanc with:

  • Lean white fish, such as flounder, filet of sole, tilapia, halibut, walleye, and snapper
  • Grilled fish, such as sea bass
  • Steamed clams and raw oysters
  • Sushi and sashimi

Try a bottle of the award-winning Starborough Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand.
