Mixability

This September and October we’re all about MIXABILITY.

Well-made spirits can be paired with all sorts of great mixers to create simple, tasty cocktails that are easy to make at home. Put down that 6-pack of beer and get out the highball glasses – it’s cocktail time!

We’ve compiled a few ideas for mixing classic drinks using our feature products; Johnnie Walker Red Label, Smirnoff Vodka, Tanqueray Gin and Captain Morgan Spiced Rum.

If some of these seem a little basic we’ll help you level up with our At-Home-Pro cocktails further down this post.

Johnnie Walker Red Label & Ginger Ale – Johnnie Walker Red is a classic blended scotch with a seriously easy-drinking profile and a great price point for whisky on island. With the World Cup coming up, this could be your new go-to drink to treat friends at home.

Smirnoff Vodka & Soda Water – vodka soda is a classic and can be jazzed up in various ways. Add a splash of juice, some fresh fruit, a drop of syrup or a sprig of mint to really liven it up and elevate your drinks.

Tanqueray Gin & Tonic – In my opinion, it doesn’t get better than a Tanqueray and tonic made with a freshly opened tonic water (none of this flat stuff for me!). Throw a lime in it and I’m more than happy. If I feel fancy, I’ll crack open a Fever Tree Indian Tonic or even a Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic… but sometimes simplicity is best.

Captain Morgan Spiced Rum & Cola – the famous rum and coke. The Cuba Libre (add lime). Let’s start with a really tall glass of ice, a glug of spiced rum and some good old CC or even diet CC if that’s your jam. Sit somewhere hot but shady, surrounded by good friends: then enjoy at your leisure. Remember to share.

Now there’s a couple of ways you could level up your cocktail ideas at home. The first would be to scope out your local supermarket and find some fun sodas or juices to use as mixers. An old classic, the Mr.Q.Cumber soda (a cucumber soda, go figure) can often be found at Fosters. A cucumber soda with Tanqueray Gin and some blackberries is amazing!

Here are some more ideas to see you through the weekend:

Johnnie Walker Red Label & Orange Juice – the zesty tang of the orange picks up the subtle fruity notes in the whisky and makes this an unexpectedly yummy mix!

Smirnoff Vodka Espresso Martini – add a touch of Baileys, honey and espresso to your Smirnoff — now — shake it a-lot on ice. There you have it; a fancy mudslide! Don’t lie, we all love an espresso martini.
