About Rum

Appleton Rum Signature Cayman IslandsOnce a favorite of sailors and pirates, rum was first distilled on sugarcane plantations in Barbados in the 1600s. The spirit is made from sugarcane or sugarcane by-products, such as molasses or sugarcane syrup. Its flavors come from the raw ingredients and from the way it is made and aged.

Jamaica’s Appleton Estate is the second oldest rum producer in the world, since 1749, and is owned by Gruppo Campari. It is the island’s oldest sugar estate and the country’s oldest continuously run distillery. The estate where the sugarcane is harvested, processed, distilled, and aged encompasses over 11,000 acres in Jamaica.

The full-bodied, medium-sweet Appleton Estate Signature Blend Rum,  once bottled as Appleton Estate V/X, is distilled and blended by Appleton Estate and bottled at 40% ABV. It’s a delicious blend of 15 aged golden rums with a warm golden color, a lush, fruity aroma, and a rich taste. You will be delighted by the scents of light nutmeg, brown sugar, molasses, and buttered toast. This is a connoisseur’s rum.

Although the sugar-rich islands of the Caribbean and West Indies may have been the birthplace of rum production in the 17th century, and still produce the majority of it today, rum is now also produced in places like Austria, Australia, Canada, Fiji, India, Japan, Mauritius, New Zealand, the Philippines, Reunion Island, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, and the U.S.
