  • Beveridge is a 5th generation native Texan who had never distilled anything in his life. His work had included running a dynamite seismic crew in Venezuela and Colombia, a drilling company in Houston, and as an environmental engineer and realtor.
  • In his free time, he dabbled in spirits as a hobby, making flavored vodka as gifts for friends using a pot still.
  • He founded Tito’s Handmade Vodka in Austin, Texas in 1997 with $90,000 he borrowed using 19 credit cards. The vodka recipe is the result of taste-testing by Beveridge’s friends.
  • There had never been a legal distillery in Texas, but Beveridge managed to secure a permit and established the Mockingbird Distillery, which produced 1,000 cases in the first year.
  • Sales and distribution of Tito’s Handmade Vodka expanded in 2001 when it won the Double Gold Medal for vodka at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, signifying that all of the judges selected Tito’s as the best out of 72 competing vodkas from around the world.
