Our “Wet” Season

Although the months of May through November are considered the “wet” season in the Cayman Islands, June is the perfect time to enjoy daily temperatures that average from 80°F to 88°F.

Water temperatures in the mid-80s make the seawater feel more like a bathtub. The clear, calm waters are ideal for diving, snorkeling, boating, and fishing. Fortunately, the beaches are less crowded during this off-season period.

There is always a chance of overcast or mostly cloudy conditions during June, so be prepared for a rain shower or two and some humidity.

The annual hurricane season runs from June to November, but the chances of a direct hit are slim. Hurricanes typically turn northward before reaching the Caymans due to the islands’ extreme westerly Caribbean location.

Things to Do in the Cayman Islands in June

In June, the Cayman Islands celebrate the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, the monarch of the British Empire. The public holiday is typically observed on the second Saturday of the month with a parade in the capital of George Town and other festivities.

In the Queen’s honor, consider visiting Grand Cayman’s Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park. This beautiful 65-acre botanic park is paradise if you appreciate native flora and fauna. Vibrant, colorful gardens will treat you to all kinds of rare, beautiful flowers, such as the rare Ghost Orchid, the Wild Banana Orchid (Cayman’s national flower which often blooms in June), as well as endemic animal species, including the Cayman Blue Iguana, which is found nowhere else on earth, and the majestic Cayman Parrot, the national bird of the Cayman Islands.

One of Grand Cayman’s flagship sporting events, the Flowers One Mile Sea Swim, also takes place in June.  The annual event has been held for nearly three decades and has been named one of the World’s Top 13 Open Water Swims. With flawless course conditions along beautiful Seven Mile Beach, the race welcomes swimmers of all ages and abilities from around the globe and awards more than US$100,000 in cash and prizes.
