Bulleit whiskey was born pre-Civil War, between 1830-1860, by Augustus Bulleit. He sold the spirit in Kentucky and Indiana until he died, and then the spirit went into a hibernation of sorts until revived by family over a century later.
In 1987, Tom Bulleit began making the generational family recipe for his inner circle and slowly began marketing it to the public. Today, Bulleit is part of the Diageo umbrella of companies and is growing more and more popular each year.
The making of Bulleit Rye Whiskey is different from others in that it uses a greater ratio of rye to other ingredients, a unique and exclusive yeast collection, and ground-level only storage spaces. Each of these factors affect the flavor positively.
At first glance, Bulleit Rye Whiskey is rich gold when in the bottle and a dark yellow when poured.
On first sniff, Bulleit Rye Whiskey has a distinct rye presence with notes of corn, vanilla, caramel, ginger, and smoked oak.

Black Manhattan
Ingredients:
- 2 oz. Bulleit rye whiskey
- 1 oz. Averna amaro
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- 1 dash orange bitters
- Brandied cherry
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients except the cherry in a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir until chilled.
- Strain into a serving glass. (chilled coupe glass)
- Garnish with a brandied cherry.
Monte Cassino
Ingredients:
- ¾ oz. Bulleit rye whiskey
- ¾ oz. Benedictine
- ¾ oz. Jagermeister
- ¾ oz. lemon juice
- Lemon twist or wedge
Instructions:
- Prepare a shaker with ice and combine the whiskey, Benedictine, Jagermeister, and lemon juice.
- Shake thoroughly.
- Strain into a prepared glass. (chilled, cocktail glass)
- Garnish with a lemon twist or wedge.
Greenpoint
Ingredients:
- 2 oz. Bulleit rye whiskey
- ½ oz. Jaggermeister
- ½ oz. sweet vermouth
- 1 dash angostura bitters
- 1 dash orange bitters
- Lemon twist or wedge (garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare a mixing glass with ice.
- Add all ingredients other than the garnish.
- Stir well.
- Strain into a serving glass. (coupe or cocktail)
- Garnish with a lemon wedge or twist.
