About Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir features strong, oaky overtones and is considered a moderately dry, medium-to-light bodied red wine. It’s not as robust as many other red varieties, and its lower amount of tannins allow you to pair it with lighter foods.

Pinot Noir pairs well with:

  • Poultry and duck
  • Lamb
  • Venison
  • Freshwater fish like salmon and trout
  • Hearty fish like tuna, marlin, swordfish, mackerel, and bluefish
  • Shellfish (oysters, crab, lobster, and mussels)
  • Fish dishes in tomato or cream-based sauces
  • Ham, spicy pork
  • Mushrooms and truffles
  • Spiced Asian and eastern Mediterranean dishes
  • Many cheeses

Recommendations

Duckhorn Goldeneye Anderson Valley Pinot Noir: Anderson Valley has earned acclaim as one of the world’s greatest regions for Pinot Noir. Crafted predominantly from their estate vineyards and shaped by the influence of the wind, water and fog, this wine embodies both the elegance of Anderson Valley Pinot Noir and its deep, rustic beauty.

2013 Sokol Blosser Dundee Hills Pinot Noir: This wine, from Oregon’s Willamette Valley, is smooth on the entry with red fruit carried throughout the flavor profile. Black cherry dominates the mid-palate with hints of cola and cassis on the finish. It possesses great depth of pure fruit flavor, strong structure, acid and persistent length.

2014 Coteaux De Trumao Cruchon Pinot Noir: A light bodied, vibrant flavored and unique red wine from Chile, this Pinot Noir pairs well with salmon or tuna and meaty white fish, lean red meats, duck, turkey, and fresh herbs like rosemary and thyme. A perfect accompaniment to any warm Cayman evening.

2013 Thomas Fogarty, Santa Cruz Mountains, Pinot Noir: Though not one of the California producer’s single-vineyard bottlings, this estate blend manages to stun the nose and palate nonetheless. Tart mulberry, Kalamata olive, hibiscus, rose hips, red plum and sandalwood aromas wrestle attention immediately. It delivers an excellent combination of wood, fruit and herb.

Oyster Bay Pinot Noir: Aromatic cherry, bright red berry and juicy black plum, this award-winner from Marlborough, New Zealand, provides a lingering, smooth and seductive texture.
