We offer:

Wine & Steak

Wine is an excellent accompaniment for steak. In most cases, red wines are the best choice, but the cut of the meat, the way you cook it, and the sauces you serve with it can affect the match-up.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is the king of red wines. It’s a full-bodied red that is primarily known for its blackberry, currants, and dark cherry flavors that stands up to most any steak, including those prepared with smoke, marinades or pepper. The high alcohol levels and tannins cut through the fat and make the steak more flavorful and the wine smoother and less bitter.

Recommendation: Try the highly rated 2015 Chimney Rock Cabernet Sauvignon from California’s Napa Valley, that features quiet layers of toasted coconut and oak as well as baked cherry and blackberry.

Malbec

Malbec is another delicious red wine and is one of France’s most heavily produced and popular wines. It is also cultivated and produced in large quantities in Argentina. Malbec features a rich, full bodied taste with berry-like fruit flavors.

Recommendation: Look for a bottle of Bodegas Callia Alta Malbec, the iconic wine grape of Argentina, from the Tulum Valley in San Juan. This one is appealingly jammy and extremely balanced on the palate.

Merlot

Many people think of Merlot as the Chardonnay of red wines. It is the second most popular type of red wine behind Cabernet Sauvignon and is easy to drink. A dry, full-bodied wine with flavors of watermelon, strawberry, cherry and plum, it also features soft notes of vanilla, mocha, and cloves. It pairs well with any type of food, including steak and other meats.

Recommendation:  Pick up a bottle of the highly rated 2014 Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot from Napa Valley, California, which incorporates fruit from from top independent vineyards throughout the Napa Valley.

Zinfandel

Zinfandel may be the world’s most versatile wine grape, creating everything from blush wine (White Zinfandel), to rich, heavy reds. Although the grape originated in Croatia centuries ago, the best ripe, sweet black cherry flavored versions come from California. Zinfandel has high acidity and moderate tannins. It’s a great match for steaks that have good amounts of fat, such as rib eyes, T-bones and Porterhouse steaks.

Recommendation: Try the excellent 2014 Angry Bunch Zinfandel from California’s Napa Valley, which pairs well with barbecue, grilled meats, zesty pasta, braised pork, and hearty cheeses.
