About the Cayman Islands

The islands that make up the Caymans are the tips of underwater mountains. With honeycombed coral formations, interconnecting tunnels, an array of corals and sponges, turtles, rays, jacks, snapper, lobsters and sharks, and crystal-clear visibility, snorkeling and scuba diving can’t get much better.

Discover a whole new world beneath the bright blue waters of beautiful Grand Cayman. Sites like East End’s Babylon, with its colorful rope sponges and black coral, the North Wall, which makes up the edge of the Cayman Trench that runs from Cuba to Central America, and West Bay’s Northwest Point Drop Off, one of the most colorful dive sites in the entire Caribbean, will take you on an undersea adventure.

In West Bay, discover the historic USS Kittiwake, a submarine rescue vessel that was in service from 1945 to 1994 and later sunk in the Cayman Islands to create an artificial reef. The Kittiwake is 251 feet long with 5 decks and can be enjoyed by all skill levels of snorkelers and scuba divers. To dive or snorkel the Kittiwake, you must take a licensed vessel.

If you would prefer to be a beach bum, it’s impossible to beat the spectacular beaches in Grand Cayman. The largest and most popular is Seven Mile Beach, which has most of the resorts and most of the people. If you’re looking for a quieter, more peaceful, but equally gorgeous stretch of sand, consider Starfish Point on the northeast tip of Grand Cayman, which is often full of amazing orange Cushion Starfish, or Smith Barcadere, also known as Smith Cove, in South Sound, which is a popular swimming and snorkeling site.

Two of the most popular don’t-miss attractions on Grand Cayman are:

  • Turtle Farm – The world-renowned 23-acre Cayman Turtle Farm is a marine adventure park that is home to over 7,000 Green Sea Turtles. They are the largest of the hard-shelled sea turtles and the second largest of all turtle species. Some of them weigh more than 500 pounds.
  • Stingray City – Another of our famous attractions is Stingray City. Thousands of tourists visit the park each day by boat and walk, swim and snorkel among the incredibly friendly stingrays that roam free in an area of the ocean protected by offshore reefs. The stingrays are large, friendly and love to be petted.
