Tropical Sangria
Sangria brings sunshine to any party. Start by cutting 3 oranges, 1 lemon and 1 lime into wedges. Squeeze the juice from the citrus wedges into a pitcher. Pour in 1 bottle of white wine (e.g., Pinot Grigio). Add 2 ounces brandy and 2/3 cup white sugar. Stir well to ensure that all of the sugar is dissolved. Chill overnight to marry all of the flavors. Just before serving, add 2 cups ginger ale (or club soda). Serve over ice and garnish with a lime wedge. Yields 8 servings. Tip: Add 1 or 2 cups of additional fruits you love, e.g. mangoes, apples, papaya or pineapple.
Honeydew Mimosa
Combine about 4 cups of cubed honeydew melon, 1 cup crushed ice, and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a blender. Process until smooth. Pour mixture into a large pitcher; add 1 bottle chilled sparkling white wine. Pour into glasses. Garnish with lime wedges. Makes 6 drinks.
Celebration Punch
In a punch bowl, mix 1 cup brandy and 1/2 cup light corn syrup until blended. Stir in 1 bottle of Riesling or other chilled sweet wine. Add 1 bottle of chilled champagne. Serve over ice with orange, lemon or lime slices, or slices of your favorite tropical fruit. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
