Chardonnay
Chardonnay is the world’s most famous white wine grape. Though it originates in France, it is one of the most widely cultivated grapes, from New Zealand to California, from Argentina to Italy.
Chardonnay pairs very well with:
- White-fleshed fish like halibut, snapper and tilapia
- Salmon
- Fish tacos
- Crab, lobster, scallops, and raw oysters
Try a bottle of the award-winning Jordan Chardonnay, one of the best from the Russian River Valley in Sonoma, California.
Pinot Grigio
The pinot grigio grape is a pink-skinned mutation of pinot noir. When produced in France, it is known as Pinot Gris. Many people’s favorites come from Italy, but France, Germany, California and Oregon do very well with the grape.
The medium-to-full bodied wine has a rich, floral bouquet and pairs exceptionally well with:
- Lean, white fish such as snapper
- Shellfish
- Fried calamari (squid)
We recommend the award-winning Cupcake Vineyards Pinot Grigio from Veneto, Italy.
Riesling
Riesling is a highly aromatic and fruity grape variety. It can span a broad range of styles, being produced in both dry to sweet and light to full-bodied variations. Although historically associated with Germany, delicious Rieslings today also come from Alsace, France, Australia’s Clare and Eden Valleys, and Washington and New York’s Finger Lakes region in the U.S.
Rieslings pair quite well with:
- Salmon and tuna
- Steamed mussels and raw oysters
- Ceviche
- Asian seafood
We recommend the Becker Laisser Faire Riesling from Pfalz, Germany.
Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is now successfully grown in wine regions all over the world, including California, Chile, South Africa, northern Italy and Australia, and has become the signature white wine of New Zealand, where it features intense green citrus and berry fruit flavors.
Pair Sauvignon Blanc with:
- Lean white fish, such as flounder, filet of sole, tilapia, halibut, walleye, and snapper
- Grilled fish, such as sea bass
- Steamed clams and raw oysters
- Sushi and sashimi
Try a bottle of the award-winning Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region of New Zealand.
